Re:
Open Space Monsters Eradicating a Way
of Life!
The Peninsula Open Space Trust just announced their
purchase of 267 acres known as San Gregorio Farms. “There are five parcels
that could be sold off individually for five separate home sites. That certainly was a threat,” said Audrey Rust, president of POST and
former Sierra Club fund raiser. In the
last 18 months POST and Mid-Peninsula Regional Open Space District (MROSD) have
eliminated approximately 72 “threatening family farms” building sites within
the Rural Lands of San Mateo County’s coastal zone. Shame on them…..the open
space Monsters are consuming our lands , eradicating the tiny Rural Lands
communities and a way of life. We will
not go quietly like our nine elderly nun neighbors.
The Sierra Club, Committee for Green Foothills, MROSD and POST are referred to the “anti-community alliance” aka ‘Monsters” by local residents of the Rural Lands communities of Purisima/Tunitas, San Gregorio, Pomponio, Precadero, Butano, Bean Hollow, Gazos and Ano Nuevo. The Monsters got together in the early seventies and decided that the San Mateo coastal Rural Lands should never be allowed to grow so by the turn of the century the Coastside communities could be annex to the Golden Gate National Recreational Area. Their apartheid strategy was very simple. With the County of San Mateo’s support, they would inhibit or prohibit the repair of all Rural Land communities vital infrastructure and all new community development. No new homes, no schools, no churches or Russian Nun convent, no farm families, no general stores ,no Duarte’s , no road access, no flood control, no fire abatement, no tax revenues for fire or sheriff protection. There is “no space” for Rural Lands communities in the Monsters coastal theme park vision. According to the official San Mateo County Housing Log records sent to me yesterday, there have been a total of 69 new residential units (homes) built since 1981 within the all Rural Lands communities. There is a grand total of 754 family dwelling located on 76,621 acres or 120 sq. miles of coastal Rural Lands. The Monsters are not creating open space…they’re eradicating our coastal Rural Lands communities! If you really want to help preserve a rural way of life, please stop supporting the Monsters…..Remember the Russian Nuns!
